An iconic restaurant where generations of people gathered to celebrate special occasions or enjoy a nightcap after a show has been revived in Allentown’s West End Theater District.
The Shanty on 19th, which held a soft opening May 22 following yearlong renovations, mixes modern features with familiar sights of the original Shanty, which closed in 2005 after nearly 40 years of business.
Among the new additions are custom-made booths, LED and pendant lighting, a lounge featuring 14 refurbished movie theater seats and a front brick patio offering outdoor dining. Film reels and other theater-themed decor adorn the walls.
Returning hallmarks include a salad bar, art deco mirror frames, a foyer that has been largely untouched and an open-concept kitchen that allows customers to watch as their meals are prepared
The 125-seat Shanty on 19th, which offers takeout, features a private party room that can accommodate up to 40 people.
A full 24-seat bar boasts 10 rotating draft beers, about 50 different bottled beers and a wide variety of unique wines. Signature cocktails, including the Shantini and 19th Street Shuffle, will slowly be introduced.
